Matawan

Matawan is a popular commuter town and is idyllically sited on the outskirts of Monmouth County’s shore epicenter of Red Bank.  Settled initially by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans, the current community was established by Dutch settlers in the 17th century.  Part of the Bayshore Regional Strategic Plan, an effort by nine municipalities in northern Monmouth County to reinvigorate the area’s economy, Matawan emphasizes traditional downtowns, dense residential neighborhoods, maritime history, and the natural beauty of the Raritan Bayshore coastline. Matawan is part of the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District, which also serves students from the neighboring community of Aberdeen Township.
