Unique is Authentic

November 12, 2019

It’s not BREAKING NEWS to say that real estate has become one of the hottest professions in all of America in the past few years.  In fact, according to HomeLight, there are now a mind-numbing 1.3 MILLION Realtors across the nation.  Which begs the question: with such a saturated market of potential recruits to list clients’ homes, how do you set yourself apart?  The answer may be simple, but it’s not always easy.  The key to setting yourself apart is authenticity.

But how can we be authentic and different?  Aren’t most Realtors rather similar?  After all, we all have the same goals in mind?

You’re not wrong!  We do have the same, ultimate goal of reaching Point B (the closing table).   But how we get prospects to recognize us in the first place, and distance ourselves from the pack on our way to Point B once the client agreements are signed, is where the success lies.

Here are 5 helpful tips to do just that:

  1. Brand yourself accurately.

    • Identify your voice and personal brand and grow your professional identity from those roots.  Keep it real.
  2. Push the content others aren’t.

    • Whether you’re selling 100 homes a year or 1, you can grab the attention of the general population through unique content.  Need help coming up with a concept?  Easy.  Ask yourself, “what haven’t I seen before?” and go do just that.
  3. Know your stuff.

    • Most people can sniff out a BS-er in the first few minutes of speaking to them.   Know the markets.  Know construction.  Know home improvement.  Know the prices.  Know the timelines.  Know the laws.  Know the neighborhood’s history.  Know the seasonal market trends.
  4. Be humble.

    • Being your true self is one of your greatest assets and something that is hard to come by these days.  People have a natural sense of sniffing out a smooth talker.  In real estate, the devil is in the details, so, use if confronted with a question you don’t know the answer to, respond with “I don’t know the answer to that, but I can find out for you.”  People will respect the authenticity one way or the other.  Like I said, it’s hard to find these days.
  5. Go the extra mile.

    • Host the open house, make arrangements for the early or late showings, provide ample feedback, and blast that home all over the Internet – everyday!

So be authentic.  Unfortunate as it may be, authenticity is hard to come by nowadays, and that difference is how you stand out from the pack.  Not everybody will like you, because, well that’s just human nature, but let your true colors shine anyway and you’ll be rewarded for keeping it real.
