Aberdeen Township

Aberdeen Township was initially settled by Lenni Lenape Native Americans as early as the year 1,000, until European occupation forced the villagers westward.  It is now home to 18,210 residents as part of the Bayshore Regional Strategic Plan, an effort by nine municipalities in northern Monmouth County to reinvigorate the area’s economy by emphasizing the traditional downtowns, residential neighborhoods, maritime history, and natural environment of the Raritan Bay coastline.  It stretches 5.4 square miles and contains a mix of residential, light industry and shopping centers.  The Aberdeen-Matawan train station offers a swift transport option into metropolitan areas for commuters. Aberdeen Township is part of the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District, together with the neighboring community of Matawan.
